Biological Terrain Testing in Carmel, IN

“If I could run just one test to evaluate the overall health of my patients it would be the Bio 101. I believe the pH imbalances of the body are at the root of most diseases.”
Clifford W. Fetters, M.D.

Bio 101

The Bio 101 test is an advanced Flow Systems Analysis which is a medical device used to evaluate the biological terrain of a human being. It measures the internal environment of the body giving the physician valuable information on balance and overall health. We know that the cells of our body thrive in an ideal environment and deteriorate in a hostile environment. The most important parameters that regulate cell health are measured by the Bio 101.

The Flow Systems Analysis

The Flow Systems Analysis is a method that is able to measure several factors of the fluid dynamics of the internal environment of the body. This environment is often referred to as the “terrain” or “biological terrain”. While the various fields of medicine examine, isolate or treat one particular part or system of the body, the Flow Systems Analysis gains feedback about the operation of the entire internal biochemical/electrical environment. This complete picture of information gives our physicians a baseline on which to judge his or her selected course of treatment as well as an objective procedure for monitoring the real effectiveness of his or her treatment on an on-going basis. This dynamic form of physiological biofeedback helps uncover the underlying cause or causes of a patient’s imbalance or illness, rather than treating a list of “symptoms”.

Soil’s “terrain” and health

Let’s talk about health and farming for a moment as they both have some things in common. Before a farmer plants his seed, he needs to be concerned with the balance of the soil in which he is going to plant. One of the primary things the farmer looks at is the soil’s pH balance, the mineral balance, hydration level, healthy bacteria levels and other factors that give him an idea of the soil’s “terrain”, for example, the environment in which that seed is going to grow. If the terrain is unbalanced, that little seed is going to have a much harder time growing into a big strong plant. As it grows, nutrient uptake from the soil can be diminished leaving the plant with a poor “immune system”, so to speak, and it becomes more susceptible to disease, competing foliage and parasites in the environment. The need for herbicides and pesticides increases in proportion to the decreasing health of the soil.

Your cells need their own balanced biological terrain

Your body’s cells are similar to that little seed. There is a “soil” for your cells. It is your internal bodily environment. To maintain health and to keep going strong, your cells need their own balanced terrain. This is their “biological terrain”. Here at Health and Wellness of Carmel we are concerned with pH balance, mineral balance, hydration levels, good bacteria in the gut and other items of importance. Very simply, when these things are off balance the body is off balance. And when it’s off balance, it is reflected in the body’s blood, interstitial and intercellular fluids. One of the most dynamic of bodily fluids is the blood.

Use of blood, urine and saliva fluids

In our office, we utilize the fluids of blood, urine and saliva. Urine is a reflection of what the body is letting go of and saliva is a reflection of what is being held onto. Blood is often the last to change when health starts to deteriorate. Using these fluids, we acquire fast and accurate measurements of; pH, rH2, resistivity/conductivity, specific gravity, surface tension, nitrate nitrogen and ammonia nitrogen balance. Furthermore, we add simple correlative, physiological tests like: specific blood pressures, pulse rates, breath hold, respiration rate, pupil response, and more.

The numbers will tell our providers where on a hierarchical scale the most important biophysical health considerations for any individual may lie. This directs the physician to consider a range of appropriate point specific protocols that can challenge the imbalance and lead the body to accepting the corrective action.

Benefits of Bio 101 Testing

Currently, many health care professionals conduct symptom surveys from which they will derive various protocols. For a traditional allopathic physician, these workups will attempt to define a symptom (disease) that can be named, and then the appropriate drug will be given. Many naturopathic physicians and schools have adopted this same way of thinking. However, instead of using pharmaceuticals as intervention, they instead use homeopathies, herbs, and nutritional supplements. It certainly is a step in the right direction, but they are not utilizing the physiology of the unique individual.

The Bio 101 will give an assessment of hydration, detoxification ability, digestion including liver and pancreatic function, mitochondrial activity level, mineral balance, proper diet requirements, and biological age.

Bio 101 Results

Thank you for participating in the Bio 101, an advanced flow systems analysis medical device used to evaluate the biological terrain of your body. The overall health of your body has been measured in many different ways. The following is an explanation of these measurements.

Autonomic nervous system: Balance of the autonomic nervous system is critical for both emotional and physical health. Your readings should be between 2 and 3. If you’re number is above 3 you are overly sympathetic. Your body is in the fight or flight mode and long-term may be at increased risk for cancer of the solid organs. If your number is below 2 you are overly parasympathetic. Long-term you may be at increased risk for cancer of the blood and lymphatic (leukemia and lymphoma). This is usually easily corrected with proper mineral balance.

Anabolic/catabolic: If your body is in balance you are anabolic at night-this allows your body to repair itself. If you are overly anabolic you most likely have too much fat in your cell membranes. This makes you more susceptible to viruses, bacteria, chronic fatigue, sleep disturbance, hypertension, osteoarthritis, seizures, and cancer. You should be in the catabolic state during the day. Your body normally has some breakdown during the day so it can be repaired and rebuilt at night. The overly catabolic state is usually due to too much fatty acid in the cell membranes which will make one more susceptible to insomnia, low blood pressure, rheumatoid arthritis, rapid aging, gallbladder disease, colitis, psoriasis, and cardiovascular disease.

Energy Production: This allows us to determine your metabolic type based upon how well you metabolize fat and protein versus carbohydrates. This will determine the quantity and type of food that is best for your genetic type.

PH: This is the measurement of hydrogen in a solution. It determines the acid-base balance of the body which dictates the speed of electricity in solution. The farther pH moves from the ideal reading of 6.4-6.8 the weaker the digestion. Every enzyme works best at an ideal pH.

rH2: This is a biomarker for oxidative stress. It reflects the body’s ability to fight free radicals. Free radicles are atoms, molecules, or ions with unpaired electrons. Free radicals are very unstable and react quickly with other compounds, trying to capture the needed electron to gain stability. Generally, free radicals attack the nearest stable molecule, “stealing” its electron. When the “attacked” molecule loses its electron, it becomes a free radical itself, beginning a chain reaction. Once the process is started, it can cascade, finally resulting in the disruption of a living cell. Optimizing digestion, nutrition, vitamin and mineral supplementation dramatically improves oxidative stress.

R: This stands for resistance which is a reflection of the ability of electricity to resists movement or flow. This is dependent upon the amount of minerals in solution. Minerals conduct electricity. More minerals lead to increased flow of electricity which causes less resistance. This is an inverse relationship. Too many minerals leads to hypertension, heart palpitations, kidney stress, deterioration of myelin that protect the nerves, excessive nerve stimulation, high cholesterol, coronary artery disease. Lack of minerals (electrolytes) leads to chronic fatigue, muscular weakness, anemia, dizziness, decreased libido, poor circulation, emotional insecurity, osteoporosis and accelerated aging.

Vitamin C: This Vitamin functions as an antioxidant and plays a role in the immune system. It is essential for synthesis of collagen and carnitine. It has antiviral and antibacterial effects. It is important for cholesterol breakdown, detoxification, and metabolism of neurotransmitters. It is critical to holding the cells of the body together. Low levels are often seen in disorders of Methylation. Zinc taste test: Zinc is a mineral that is critical in DNA and protein synthesis. It is essential for growth, vision, hearing, taste, spermatogenesis, immune function, and wound healing. It functions as an antioxidant, helps stabilize cell membranes, has anti-inflammatory effects, and has antiviral activity.

NO3: Nitrate nitrogen levels give us an indication of how well the body is handling protein. This number should be between 8 -10.

NH4: Ammonia nitrogen is a waste product produced during the metabolism of protein by the liver then filtered by the kidneys. High levels represent extreme toxicity and/or body tissue destruction. Levels should be 2 less than NO3.

Total urea: A total of NO3 and NH4. For the average individual this number should be between 16 and 18. Levels below 12 indicate a potassium deficiency. Symptoms are usually migraine headaches, sudden drop in mental activity, depression, mood swings, seizures, dementia, thyroid dysfunction and weight gain. Total urea above 20 indicates nitrogen toxicity which leads to excess stress to the heart. Above 24 is significant stress to the body. It leads to poor sleep and waking up exhausted.

We wish you good luck on this endeavor to achieve Optimal Wellness Naturally. When we repeat this test is determined by the severity of abnormalities of the biological terrain as well as the speed at which our client directed us to correct the imbalances.
